Behind the festival
Hi I'm Portia, the creator of the Consumed Film Festival! Consumed was created after the immense struggle I endured while in eating disorder recovery. In a world of diet culture, I found it hard to find a community that I could relate to and had the values and mindset that would aid me in my recovery. This led me to create The Caterpillar Project, an organization dedicated towards teaching children how to fuel for their sport and ditch diet culture. Although I was teaching others, I still felt very alone and hadn't found a community that wasn't ingrained in diet culture. Then, came the idea for the Consumed Film Festival and the creation of mobile apps to help those in eating disorder recovery feel less alone and teen athletes.
The Consumed film festival is a celebration of voices of survivors to promote the breaking down of the stigma of eating disorders, foster a community where those recovering can feel safe, and celebrate the launch of our apps! Let's destigmatize eating disorders together!

The Caterpillar Project App is a safe space for active youth to learn how to fuel themselves and ditch diet culture. It equips them with the tools they need to be able to identify diet culture in daily life and make informed nutritional decisions. A video series featuring sports and eating disorder dietitians bring to light important topics such as eating disorders in sport, how to have a positive relationship with food, and more.
The app will be availible towards the end of 2026.
The Caterpillar House is a website where those who need help in their eating disorder recovery can understand the recovery process and find the tools they need to recover. Users can watch and read stories of others, journal, explore different coping mechanisms, and learn about the many facets of recovery through a survivor and dietitian led video series. The website will be available towards the end of 2026.Â
The Caterpillar Project overlooks all projects such as the Caterpillar Project app for active youth, the Consumed Film Festival, the Caterpillar House, and more. Its main focus is helping teen athletes ditch diet culture and learn about nutrition through dietitian backed presentations and resources. Reducing the stigma around eating disorders in the San Diego community is also a key focus.
