Behind the festival

Hi I'm Portia, the creator of the Consumed Film Festival! Consumed was created after the immense struggled I endured while recovering from my eating disorder. In a world of diet culture, I found it hard to find a community that I could relate to and had the values and mindset that would aid me in my recovery. This led me to create The Caterpillar Project, an organization dedicated towards teaching children how to fuel for their sport and ditch diet culture. Although I was teaching others, I still felt very alone and hadn't found community that wasn't ingrained in diet culture. Then, came the idea for the Consumed film festival and the creation of the Caterpillar House. The Caterpillar House is an app where those in recovery can watch and read the stories of others and explore resources that can aid them in their recovery to feel less alone and lost in their journey. The Consumed film festival is a celebration of voices of survivors to promote the breaking down of the stigma of eating disorders, foster a community where those recovering can feel safe, and celebrate the launch of the Caterpillar House App. Let's destigmatize eating disorders.
